Internal Affairs Ministry concerned over budgetary cuts

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is concerned that it's budget for the next financial year 2024/2025 has been cut hence asking Parliament to maintain the shs1.9trillion to enable it address critical service delivery areas.

The State Minister for Internal Affairs Gen David Muhoozi says failure to maintain the current budget, it will bring about persistent requests for supplementary funding during budget implementation.

The ministry with all its entities the Uganda Police Force, Uganda Prisons Service, government analytical laboratory and NIRA on Thursday appeared before the defense committee to submit their ministerial budget estimate for the financial year 2024/2025.

However,  according to Gen  Muhoozi the budget has been slashed from shs1.9 trillion to shs1.4 trillion, a thing he said will affect their operation in the year 2024/2025.

Among those affected in the budget cuts are  the construction of  selected district police headquarters, the renovation of 15 police heath centres, the craft maintenance and  the construction of an armory at Nagalama among others.

According to the undersecretary of Uganda police shs97 billion  is required for the procurement of police uniforms, shs4 billion for electricity, shs700 million for water, shs21 illion  for training of police officers among others.

However, all these items have been affected by the budget cut.
